Four folios containing Jones' lectures written to accompany display of his Pantoscope during his tour of eastern cities. The lectures describe travel along the Emigrant Trail between the Missouri River and San Francisco, detailing scenery, life on the trail, encounters with Indians, mining camps and mining processes, and frontier towns and characters. Includes articles by Jones' niece, Lydia W. Trowbridge, on the establishment of the Northwestern Female College at Evanston, Ill., founded in 1855 by Jones and his brother; a transcription of an 1890 reminiscence of the college's beginnings; two pieces of Trowbridge's correspondence; and miscellaneous transcripts, clippings, and correspondence relating to advertisement, publication, and sale of the Pantoscope and the accompanying lectures. Also includes a few obituary clippings of Jones.
